Traditional Chinese metaphysical studies encompass various branches such as Ba Zi (Four Pillars of Destiny), Zi Wei Dou Shu (Purple Star Astrology), Liu Yao (Six Lines Divination), and Feng Shui, all of which have a long history and profound influence within Chinese culture. However, in today's highly developed scientific era, how should we view these ancient cultural heritages?

First, we must recognize that metaphysical studies and science are fundamentally different. Science is built upon repeatable and verifiable experiments, whereas metaphysical studies are largely based on ancient people's observations and summaries of nature and society, forming an empirical knowledge system. Evaluating metaphysical studies by scientific standards is, in itself, a methodological misalignment.

The value of metaphysical studies lies in their provision of a framework for understanding oneself and navigating life. However, we must also guard against excessive superstition regarding metaphysical studies. Attributing everything to fate or hoping to gain without effort through Feng Shui adjustments are misunderstandings of these practices. Ancient sages long ago pointed out that "those who truly understand the I Ching do not rely heavily on divination."

A rational approach is to regard traditional metaphysical studies as a form of cultural wisdom and psychological tool. They can help us better understand ourselves and provide guidance when making decisions, but the final choices should still be based on realistic circumstances and rational analysis. As the ancients said, "Do your best and leave the rest to fate"—first exert your utmost effort, then accept the outcome with equanimity.

From the perspective of cultural heritage, traditional metaphysical studies are an important component of Chinese culture, embodying ancient people's reflections on the laws of the universe, life, and society. Even if one does not believe in them from a superstitious standpoint, they are still worthy of understanding and respect as subjects of cultural study.
