The Thirty Hexagrams of the Upper Canon start from Qiankun and end at Kanli. The Tun hexagram symbolizes the difficulties of the birth of all things, the Meng hexagram represents ignorance and the need for enlightenment, and the Need hexagram symbolizes waiting for the right opportunity. The 34 hexagrams of the Xia Jing begin with Xianheng and end with Jiji but not Jiji. The Xian hexagram represents induction and emotion, while the Heng hexagram represents persistence and stability. This is the beginning of human social relationships. From family relationships to social interactions, from personal cultivation to governance of the country, Xia Jing showcases various aspects of human social life.

Of particular note are the last two hexagrams: Jiji and Wuji. The Ji hexagram represents that the task has been completed and appears to be perfect; The Wuji hexagram represents that the task is not yet completed. The ending of the entire scripture with the concept of Wuji reflects the core idea of the Book of Changes - that change is endless. Any ending is a new beginning, a cycle that repeats itself endlessly.

This arrangement demonstrates the unique concept of "change" in the Book of Changes. The development of things is not a simple linear process, but a dialectical process of spiral upward and wave forward. Every hexagram contains the possibility of transformation towards the opposite.
